يصاب كلٌّ منا بألم البطن من حين لآخر. ومن المصطلحات الأخرى المستخدَمة لوصفه: المغص ووجع البطن وألم الأحشاء وألم الأمعاء. يمكن أن يكون ألم البطن خفيفًا أو شديدًا. وقد يكون مستمرًّا أو متقطعًا. قد يستمر ألم البطن لفترة قصيرة، وهو النوع الذي يُعرف بالحاد. وقد يستمر الشعور به أيضًا لأسابيع أو أشهر أو سنوات، وهو النوع الذي يُعرف بالمزمن.

اتصِل بالطبيب في الحال إذا شعرت بألم شديد في البطن تزداد حدته كلما تحركت. أو إذا كنت لا تستطيع أن تجلس ثابتًا أو لا تجد وضعية مريحة للجلوس بسببه.
