Biographical summary
Shannon Fortin Ensign, M.D., Ph.D., is an Oncologist and Physician-Scientist with Mayo Clinic Arizona, with a special interest and expertise in Neuro-Oncology.
Dr. Fortin Ensign received her bachelor's degree in Biochemistry at Arizona State University during which time she was awarded a national Goldwater Scholarship and international Fulbright Fellowship for her work in cancer research. She subsequently earned her dual MD, PhD degree from the University of Arizona College of Medicine Phoenix in collaboration with the Translational Genomics Research Institute. Her PhD thesis focused on molecular signaling in glioblastoma tumors. She completed Internal Medicine residency and served as chief resident at Scripps Clinic in La Jolla, CA while also a concurrent KL2 scholar under the American Board of Internal Medicine Physician Scientist training track. She then completed a Hematology & Oncology fellowship with Mayo Clinic Arizona, where she was chief fellow.
Dr. Fortin Ensign's clinical practice focuses on diagnosing and treating patients with primary brain tumors and brain metastases. She also oversees a translational brain tumor research lab at Mayo Clinic with a primary focus on understanding the biology and genomics of gliomas in order to identify tumor vulnerabilities and advance new treatments for brain cancer.
