Biographical summary
Young Erben, M.D., is a board-certified vascular surgeon at Mayo Clinic in Florida. Her clinical interests include cerebrovascular disease, aortic aneurysm and aortic dissection, peripheral vascular disease, comparative effectiveness research, quality improvement initiatives and initiatives to eradicate disparities in care, especially those related to cardiovascular diseases and women.
Dr. Erben earned her medical degree from Goethe University Frankfurt, Germany. She completed a general surgery residency and vascular surgery fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Erben has authored more than 120 peer-reviewed manuscripts and contributed to more than 15 book chapters. She has received numerous awards for scholarship, leadership and research, including the SVS Foundation Research Career Development Travel Award, the SVS Leadership Training Grant and the SVS Leadership Mastery Grant, the Mayo Clinic in Florida Research Accelerator for Clinicians Engaged in Research (RACER) and RACER Plus awards, and the Focused Research Team Award. She is one of the key collaborators for Dr. Leonard Petrucelli’s R35 supplemental funding for the study of mid- and long-term neuro-cognitive sequelae of severe COVID-19 infection.
A Fellow of the American College of Surgeons, Dr. Erben is a member of many professional societies. She serves on the Executive Council of the Cirujanos Vasculares de Habla Hispana, as Medical Director of the Southeastern Vascular Study Group (VQI), and on the American Venous Forum Membership Committee. She is an active member of the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) and serves on the SVS Leadership Development Committee and the SVS Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee.
