Biographical summary
Patricia A. Cronin M.D., FRCS, is an endocrine surgeon and breast surgical oncologist in Mayo Clinic Arizona and the Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center. She has been on the faculty of Mayo Clinic since 2018. She completed her general surgical training before subspecializing with two specialty fellowship training programs in Endocrine Surgery and Breast Surgical Oncology.
The focus of her clinical work includes:
- Expertise in the surgical management of endocrine disorders and malignancies such as thyroid cancer, Graves' disease, hyperparathyroidism, adrenal tumors etc.
- Multidisciplinary management of breast cancer, working with medical oncology, radiation oncology, and plastic surgery to maximize breast cancer outcomes.
- Strong advocate for combining cancer care with strategies to maximize cosmetic results and symmetry. Experienced in oncoplastic breast surgery, breast reduction surgery, breast asymmetry surgery, nipple sparing mastectomy.
- Emphasis on patient education and joint decision making. She strives to give detailed explanations in an understandable way to allow patients to make an informed choice about treatment and surgery decisions.
In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Cronin is also extensively involved in research and clinical trials. She is also an educator and mentor to physicians in training, clinical support staff and practicing physicians. She is co-director of the Mayo Clinic continuing medical education course, Multidisciplinary Update in Breast Disease.
