Kai J. Miller, M.D., Ph.D.

  1. Neurosurgeon
  2. Pediatric Neurosurgeon

Kai J. Miller, Ph.D., M.D., Ph.D., is a pediatric and adult neurosurgeon who specializes in brain tumors, epilepsy, and deep-brain stimulation. He manages patients in both in the operating room and in the outpatient setting. His research involves measuring electrical brain activity with patients undergoing therapy with implanted electrodes, to understand brain circuit dynamics and develop new therapies. In addition to brain tumors, epilepsy, and deep brain stimulation, Dr. Miller manages and treats general pediatric neurosurgical conditions, including:

  • Hydrocephalus
  • Chiari I malformations
  • Arachnoid cysts
  • Spine disorders including tethered cord
  • Spinal tumors
  • Vascular malformations
  • Head and spine trauma

In addition to his active clinical and research programs, Dr. Miller teaches graduate students and mentors neurosurgical residents.

  • Pediatric neurosurgery
  • Epilepsy
  • Brain tumors
  • Research in cybernetics, neurosurgical stereotaxy, and large-scale brain dynamics
  • Motor circuits (How the brain computes to perform movements)
  • Cybernetics and Brain Computer Interfaces
  • Electrical circuits of psychiatric diseases
