Commercial insurance Only. Commercially insured patients can access funds through copay assistance programs or grants. Copay assistance programs, also known as manufacturer assistance programs, are provided through pharmaceutical companies. They help insured patients afford expensive prescription drugs and/or clinica administered infusions by covering part or all of a members out of pocket medical expenses including their deductible, copay and/or co-insurance. Copay assistance programs are not the same thing as copay coupons.
The Mayo Clinic External Funding Team continuously searches for patients undergoing eligible treatment plans, might qualify for copay assistance programs for their infusions and or clinic administered injections. If a patient appears to meet program criteria, our team will reach out to you as the patient and ask if you're interested in applying. If you are, Mayo Clinic will facilitate the application process which includes signing a release of information form, giving us permission to submit your claims and explanation of benefits on your behalf. We will also follow up on payment, which then allows you to focus on what really matters, your care. You will only receive a statement once we have obtained the necessary funds from the program. We will keep you updated as we work through the process and are always available for questions.
Grants for commercial insurance. Commercially-insured patients qualify for grants. When grants become available, the Mayo Clinic External Funding Team reaches out to patients who might qualify and will help patients submit applications and track their approval. You are also welcome to research and apply for grants on your own.
Grant eligibility varies by disease fund and type of grant. In general, grants have multiple criteria. You're getting treatment for the disease named in the disease fund. Your treatment must be listed as a covered service for your disease fund. You have health insurance that covers your qualifying medication or product. Health insurance requirements vary by fund. Your income must fall within the range defined by the fund. You must reside and receive treatment in the United States or U.S. territories. U.S. citizenship is not required.
Once you receive a grant, Mayo Clinic can help you submit your healthcare claims an explanation of benefits for reimbursement. Our team will then ensure that the funds from the grant are distributed against your current balances. In 2023, Mayo Clinic obtained more than $10,000,000 in approved grant funds for our patients.
