My name is Dr. Deanna Menapace, and I'm a facial plastic surgeon here at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida, and I've been in practice for about five years. When I listen to patients, I'm really trying to get at the core of who they are, so when I think about patient-centered care, it's really like trying to pick out what's best for the patient. Why I picked my practice is I really like seeing the breadth of plastic surgery of the face. So when people think about plastic surgery, they often think about cosmetic surgery. That is a huge part of what I do. There are a lot of patients that have congenital things, meaning that they're born with it and they need support to help normalize their appearance. In Florida, we have a lot of skin cancer because it's a very sunny state, so patients need a reconstruction after their skin cancer removal, so I think that's a really valuable part about what I do. But it's really about making patients happy, and when you can focus on making patients happy, I think you can have better outcomes working together. I really like working with a consistent team. I see myself as the leader of the team, but that we really are all working together. People look to me to sort of guide them as far as what our expectations are and what our goals are for that day, for that case, for our clinic day. It helps us be more efficient and we just try to have positive outlook. I just think I have the greatest job.
