Devyani Lal, M.D., is Professor of Otolaryngology, Mayo College of Medicine and Science with a joint appointment in Neurological Surgery. She specializes in Rhinology & Endoscopic Cranial Base Surgery. Dr Lal is program director of the fellowship in Rhinology and Endoscopic Cranial Base surgery. Dr. Lal also serves as Dean of Education, Mayo Clinic in Arizona.

Dr. Lal's practice and research focuses on:

  • Complex sinus disease requiring surgery (nasal polyposis, aspirin exacerbated respiratory disease, allergic fungal sinusitis, etc.)
  • Revision sinus surgery and frontal sinus surgery
  • Repair of Cerebrospinal rhinorrhea
  • Endoscopic endonasal surgery for pituitary and skull base pathology (tumors, chordomas, craniopharyngioma)
  • Sinonasal malignancies and tumors (inverted papilloma, angiofibroma, cancers)
  • Endoscopic orbital surgery, orbital decompression and endoscopic dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR)

Dr. Lal has over 150 scientific publications. She is co-editor of the book, "Frontal Sinus Surgery", and Associate Editor of Cumming's Otolaryngology, Head & Neck Surgery, 6th Edition. She is an editorial board member of the journal, International Forum for Allergy and Rhinology and is Associate Editor for the American Journal of Rhinology and Allergy. Dr. Lal has co-authored the International Consensus Statement on Allergy and Rhinology: Rhinosinusitis 2021; the European Position Paper on Sinusitis and Nasal Polyps 2020, and the International Consensus Statement on Allergy and rhinology: Sinonasal tumors 2023.

Dr. Lal is chair-elect of the Rhinology and Allergy Education Committee of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head & Neck Surgery, Chair-elect of the Women in Rhinology Section of the American Rhinologic Society, and President of the Association of American Otolaryngologists of Indian Heritage.
