Joseph T. Breen, M.D., is a fellowship-trained and board-certified otologist/neurotologist and an assistant professor in the Department of Otolaryngology (ENT) at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. He also serves as chief of the Department's division of otology and neurotology.

As an expert ear surgeon, Dr. Breen specializes in the diagnosis and treatment of acoustic neuroma (vestibular schwannoma), hearing loss, chronic ear infections and rare or complex ear disorders. These disorders include cholesteatoma, otosclerosis and superior semicircular canal dehiscence.

He earned his medical degree from Northwestern University and completed his residency in otolaryngology at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. He then pursued advanced fellowship training in neurotology at Baylor College of Medicine.

Dr. Breen is nationally and internationally recognized for his expertise in skull base and ear surgery. He is a member of several professional organizations, including the North American Skull Base Society and American Academy of Otolaryngology — Head and Neck Surgery, and the American Neurotology Society. He also serves on editorial boards and as a reviewer for several leading medical journals. His research interests include cochlear implants and fluid dynamics of the dural venous sinuses and temporal bone.

Originally from the Midwest, Dr. Breen enjoys exploring all that his adopted home state of Florida has to offer. Outside of work, he spends time with his wife and three children and enjoys golf, cycling, and travel.
