Alex Cortez, M.D., completed general surgery residency at the University of Cincinnati and then a transplant surgery fellowship at UCSF. His clinical interests include liver and kidney transplantation, HPB and the use of technical variant grafts, and liver modulation using machine perfusion. He has a strong interest and passion for surgical education, both as an educator and researcher. His research efforts in surgical education span a range of topics among general surgery residents and transplant fellows with the aim of advancing the evolving landscape of surgical training. He is also engaged in clinical outcomes research and has an interest in transplant outcomes, in particular the use of marginal organs to expand the donor pool.
