Dr. Suarez Pardo's clinical practice focuses on the treatment of patients with medical conditions and comorbid psychiatric illnesses, with a primary focus on patients with cardiovascular disease. Her research interests include: characterization of psychological distress in patients with cardiovascular disease, development of accurate screening and diagnostic tools, psychiatric interventions to improve patients' mental and cardiovascular health and outcomes, and inclusive research that applies current psychocardiology work to ethnic, racial, and gender underrepresented populations, addressing the impact of societal and structural barriers on mental and general health.

Psychocardiology — psychosocial distress and psychiatric illness are prevalent in patients with cardiovascular disease, and evidence suggests that they can impact one's recovery from illness. Dr. Suarez Pardo is interested in examining the overlap between psychiatric illness and distress and cardiovascular disease hoping to improve adherence to treatment recommendations and lifestyle changes, quality of life, and illness outcomes.
