Biographical summary
Catalina Sanchez Alvarez, M.D., is a Senior Associate Consultant in the division of Rheumatology at Mayo Clinic. She holds the academic rank of Assistant Professor of Medicine. Dr. Sanchez earned her
medical degree from CES University School of Medicine in Medellin Colombia. She completed her Internal Medicine Residency at Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, FL., and a rheumatology fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.
Her clinical and research interests in rheumatology include:
- Evaluation and management of vasculitis (including giant cell arteritis, Takayasu and ANCA-associated vasculitis)
- Myositis
- Connective tissue disease-associated interstitial lung disease
- Osteoporosis.
- Apart from her clinical activities Dr. Sanchez is actively involved in vasculitis research.
She is fluent in English and Spanish and is certified to provide care as a Spanish interpreter.
