Tim Leiner, M.D., Ph.D.

Tim Leiner, M.D., Ph.D., is a cardiovascular radiologist subspecialized in advanced cross-sectional imaging of heart and blood vessels. He diagnoses diseases such as coronary artery and peripheral arterial disease, as well as diseases of the heart muscle.

Dr. Leiner graduated from Maastricht University in Maastricht, The Netherlands, and completed postgraduate training in Maastricht, as well as at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He was a staff member at Utrecht University Medical Center in Utrecht, The Netherlands, before joining Mayo Clinic in 2021.

He has pioneered and developed several new imaging technologies that improve visualization of diseases of the heart and blood vessels. He has contributed more than 400 papers to the scientific literature, as well as being a co-author of several cardiovascular imaging textbooks.

Dr. Leiner is frequently invited nationally and internationally to speak at meetings and to teach about the use and interpretation of cross-sectional cardiovascular imaging, as well as the use of artificial intelligence in radiology.

Dr. Leiner is a member of the Mayo Clinic Enterprise Radiology Artificial Intelligence Subcommittee. He also is a professor of radiology at Utrecht University Medical Center in Utrecht, The Netherlands.
