Dr. Windgassen joined Mayo Clinic staff in 1996 and practiced in Consultative Medicine until joining the Mayo Clinic Executive Health program in July 2020. She earned her undergraduate degree at Northwestern University and her medical degree at the Medical University of South Carolina. She completed an internal medicine residency and fellowship at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Dr. Windgassen is board certified in internal medicine.

Prior to joining the Executive Health program, Dr. Windgassen served as Vice Chair and Section Head of Consultative Medicine. She was elected to Officers and Councilors of the Mayo Clinic Staff. During the 24 years she practiced in consultative medicine she treated regional, international and executive patients who requested evaluations for comprehensive exams, complex medical issues and/or multiple unexplained symptoms.

Dr. Windgassen's interests include medical genetics and preventive health screening to develop a plan to prevent chronic disease. She also enjoys teaching medical students at Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine.

Dr. Windgassen enjoys spending time with family and friends, wildlife and nature photography, adventure travel, film festivals and football.
