Biographical summary
Brandon P. Verdoorn, M.D., C.M.D., is a geriatrician and internal medicine practitioner. His clinical focus includes:
- Care of patients in long-term care facilities — including skilled nursing facilities (SNF), assisted living facilities, and memory care — as well as care of homebound older adults.
- Managing complex serious illness, including but not limited to heart disease/failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), chronic kidney disease, complicated diabetes, frailty, and osteoporosis/fractures.
- Expertise in evaluation and management of dementia and related neurodegenerative disorders and the complications thereof, including but not limited to Alzheimer's Disease, Parkinson's Disease, and vascular dementia.
- Providing care at and leading up to the end of life, including advance care planning and care focused on comfort, dignity, and quality of life (i.e. palliative care).
In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. Verdoorn is a certified medical director (C.M.D.) by the American Board of Post-Acute and Long-term Care Medicine, and serves as the medical director of three SNF. He is active in education, where he is Program Director for the Mayo Clinic Geriatric Medicine fellowship and co-directs multiple continuing medical education courses. He is also active in clinical research focusing on patients in long-term care facilities.
