Biographical summary
Dr. David Toro-Tobon is an Assistant Professor, Mayo Clinic Scholar, and Investigator at the Care and AI Laboratory within the Division of Endocrinology at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. He earned his medical degree from CES University in Medellín, Colombia, completed his internal medicine residency at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, D.C., and finished his endocrinology fellowship at Mayo Clinic. He is currently pursuing a Master’s in Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare at the Mayo Clinic Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
In his clinical practice, Dr. Toro-Tobon specializes in the management of thyroid disorders, including thyroid cancer, thyroid nodules, and both autoimmune and functional thyroid diseases such as thyroid eye disease, hypothyroidism, and hyperthyroidism.
His research is dedicated to applying artificial intelligence—especially natural language processing, computer vision, and multimodal approaches—to enhance the assessment and treatment of thyroid diseases and improve healthcare delivery. Additionally, he has led prospective, cross-sectional, and quality improvement studies on diverse topics, including advanced therapies for thyroid eye disease, glucocorticoid metabolite profiling in thyroid dysfunction, and novel redifferentiation strategies for radioactive iodine-refractory thyroid cancer.
