Biographical summary
Robert P. Frantz, M.D., FACC, is board certified in Cardiology, Internal Medicine, and Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology. He received his medical degree from Mayo Medical School and completed Internal Medicine Residency at Mayo Graduate School of Medicine. After completing fellowship in Cardiovascular Diseases at University of Rochester Medical Center, Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, NY, Dr. Frantz joined the staff of Mayo Clinic in 1990.
Areas of clinical expertise include:
- Hemodynamic assessment including exercise and drug interventions in the Catheterization Laboratory for patients with PAH, CTEPH, PH associated with lung diseases, left heart disease, and mechanical circulatory support
- Management of cardiac transplant candidates and recipients
- Pulmonary arterial hypertension
- Advanced left heart disease
- Mechanical circulatory support recipients
Dr. Frantz is Director of the Pulmonary Hypertension Clinic and Professor of Medicine at Mayo Clinic. Primary interests include pulmonary hypertension both WHO Group I, chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension and the role of Balloon Pulmonary Angioplasty, and also pulmonary hypertension associated with left heart disease and in context of Mechanical Circulatory Support and transplantation. He is the principal investigator for the NHLBI Pulmonary Vascular Disease Phenomics project.
