Michael L. Kendrick, M.D., is a hepatobiliary and pancreas surgeon with a special interest in innovative minimally invasive approaches for treating pancreatic and hepatobiliary diseases. He is the chair of the department of surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

His clinical focus includes:

  • Specialization in pancreatic, liver, bile duct, and gallbladder diseases and tumors. He performs open and minimally invasive surgery (robotic and laparoscopic), including the Whipple procedure.
  • Laparoscopic and open management of pancreatic neoplasms, pancreatic cysts, pancreatitis, hepatocellular cancer, cholangiocarcinoma and metastatic lesions of the liver.
  • Collaborating with patients to manage life with chronic disease, resolve issues and achieve balance.

Dr. Kendrick's approach to patient care is to consider his patients' unique situations and encourage them to participate in their health decisions and management. His personalized care provides patients the individualized support they need, whether that is a listening ear or a calm, clear strategy.

Dr. Kendrick earned his medical degree from George Washington University in Washington, DC. He completed his general surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Rochester, Minnesota. After residency, he received additional training as a Mayo Foundation Scholar in hepatobiliary surgery (Mayo Clinic in Rochester and Paris, France) and minimally invasive surgery (Mount Sinai, New York).

In addition to his clinical activities, Dr. Kendrick is an active leader in research and education, providing mentorship to residents and fellows. He has been awarded teaching honors and is widely published in surgery, hepatobiliary, and cancer journals.
