Biographical summary
Dr. Jentzer is the Mayo Clinic's first full-time dedicated cardiac intensivist, providing care for patients in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. As physician trained in both Cardiovascular Disease and Critical Care Medicine, he specializes in treating all forms of acute cardiovascular disease and other manifestations of critical illness. Dr. Jentzer's clinical focus is on improving the care of critically-ill patients with cardiovascular disease, including cardiac arrest, circulatory shock and acute renal failure. His career focus is on improving patient outcomes in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit through research and quality improvement in order to become a national leader in the field of cardiac critical care.
Dr. Jentzer is the Director of Cardiac Intensive Care Unit Research, with ongoing research projects examining:
- Coronary angiography in patients resuscitated from cardiac arrest
- Echocardiography and myocardial dysfunction in patients resuscitated from cardiac arrest
- Vasopressor and inotrope usage in critically-ill patients
- Mechanical circulatory support in cardiogenic shock and decompensated heart failure
- Echocardiography in acute cardiorenal syndrome and sepsis
- Mortality risk prediction in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit and other intensive care unit populations
