Studies have shown that clear communication between patients and their health care teams can improve patient outcomes.
That's why Mayo Clinic offers interpreters for 200-plus languages at the Mayo Clinic campus in Rochester, Minnesota, at no charge. The goal is to remove any communication barriers that can prevent patients from finding the answers they need.
Interpreter services
Whether you're visiting from abroad, or next door, if you or your loved one feels more comfortable speaking in a language other than English, tell Mayo Clinic registration staff that you will need an interpreter.
Experienced medical interpreters can attend appointments, translate patient education materials and offer other assistance, as needed. Interpreters for many languages are available to meet you in person, to help interpret your appointment. If an in-person interpreter that speaks your preferred language is not available, interpretation services can also be provided by video or phone.
In addition, multilingual specialists in appointments, registration and finance can assist patients and their families before, during and after visits to Mayo Clinic.
Services for people with hearing impairments
Mayo Clinic may provide ASL interpreters, and video interpreting is available to Mayo patients. If you need this service, simply tell your Mayo Clinic registration staff.
