Pediatric units

Using a multispecialty team approach, Mayo Eugenio Litta Children's Hospital offers expert pediatric care in all its units, tailored to your child's needs.

General Pediatric Unit

Location: Francis Building, Second Floor and Third Floor (Fr 2B, Fr 3C)

Infants, children and teens usually are grouped according to their age. They are admitted to the General Pediatric Unit for a variety of reasons, including illness, injury or surgery. The unit specializes in family-centered care. All rooms are private, with a private bathroom, a couch-bed for a family member, a TV, video-viewing equipment and a music system.

Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (CSICU)

Location: Mary Brigh Building, Fifth Floor (MB 5B)

Children who have heart surgery or a heart transplant or who are in need of extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) therapy are cared for in the CSICU. This is an 11-bed intensive care unit with private rooms.

A primary nurse is assigned to each pediatric patient on admission. Treatment follows a family-centered approach. Patient rooms have video-viewing equipment. Photos are taken throughout the hospital stay and photo albums are available to record your child's hospital experience.

Level 1 Surgery Center

Mayo Clinic Children's is a Level 1 Children's Surgery Center, the highest verification awarded by the American College of Surgeons (ACS). This distinction recognizes the surgical excellence of our multispecialty teams — including surgeons, anesthesiologists, physicians, nurses and more — who meet or exceed ACS criteria for quality of care for newborns, babies, children, and teenage surgical patients.

Newborn Intensive Care Unit (NICU)

Location: Mary Brigh Building, Third Floor (MB 3B) – Level IV NICU Eisenberg Building, Third Floor (EI 3-5) – Level III NICU

Mayo Clinic's newborn intensive care unit (NICU) specializes in family-centered care of premature and critically ill newborns. All NICU rooms are private or semi-private. Families are welcome at the infant's bedside around the clock and at support spaces throughout the units. These include family waiting areas and nourishment rooms.

When a baby is in the NICU and family is unable to be at the bedside due to hospitalization or other reasons, the baby's family can watch the baby from any mobile device via the AngelEye Camera System.

Mayo Clinic’s NICU Follow-up Clinic ensures continuity of quality developmental-focused care after discharge from the NICU through the first years of life.

Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU)

Location: Mary Brigh Building, Third Floor (MB 3G)

Mayo Clinic’s PICU specializes in family-centered care of children who are critically ill. Families are welcome at the child's bedside and at the many support spaces throughout the unit. These include family waiting areas, parent-sleep rooms and breastfeeding rooms.

Pediatric Infusion Therapy Center (PITC)

Locations:

Mary Brigh Building, Fifth Floor (MB 5A)

Serves all ages and those with higher risk of reactions to medicine.

Eisenberg Building, Eighth Floor (EB 8C)

Serves children 2 years and older.

Mayo Clinic's PITC is a pediatric outpatient facility that serves children who need intravenous (IV) or infusion therapy. This includes chemotherapy, blood transfusions and antibiotic therapy.

Pediatric Rehabilitation Unit

Location: Generose Building, Fourth Floor and Fifth Floor

Children who need multispecialty intensive rehabilitative care including physical, occupational, speech and recreational therapy due to significant injury or illness causing disability receive care here. The unit has specially designated pediatric rooms, gyms, equipment, and staff to care for children and teenagers.

Pediatric Transplant Unit

Location: Mary Brigh Building, Third Floor (MB 3G)

Mayo's Pediatric Transplant Unit is a specially designated area of the PICU. The unit cares for children who have had bone marrow, liver or kidney transplants. Families are welcome at the child's bedside and at the many support spaces throughout the unit, such as family waiting areas, parent-sleep rooms and breastfeeding rooms.

Pediatric Emergency Department

Location: Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus, First Floor

Specially trained pediatric emergency medicine specialists, as well as pediatric medical specialists, pediatric surgeons, and child and adolescent psychiatrists, treat sick and injured children in the Pediatric Emergency Department. Mayo Eugenio Litta Children's Hospital is a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center.
