Care for your patients with fibroids at Mayo Clinic May 28, 2020 Overview Show transcript Overview Sarah L. Cohen, M.D., M.P.H., explains the options for care of women with fibroids at Mayo Clinic, highlighting the special considerations taken during the COVID-19 pandemic. SARAH COHEN: Hello. My name is Sarah Cohen. I'm a gynecologist at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota, and I specialize in minimally-invasive gynecologic surgery with a special interest in the treatment of uterine fibroids. The current environment presents many challenges. Mayo Clinic's highest priority is patient and staff safety. We are taking every precaution to ensure the safety of our patients through universal masking, enhanced safety protocols, robust screening, and testing strategies. One great option for our patients, especially those who are coming from a distance, is the virtual consultation, which can be done over the phone or by videoconference with one of our gynecologic experts. With this option, a patient can find out about treatments from which she may benefit most and prioritize the next steps, including arranging any necessary imaging or exams prior to making the trip to Mayo Clinic. The fibroid clinic, within the division of gynecology, is comprised of leading clinicians and researchers. We are proud to offer a full complement of non-invasive and minimally-invasive treatment options for fibroids. If your patient is interested in one of the radiological procedures to treat fibroids, we can help facilitate a consultation with one of our colleagues in interventional radiology. And if surgery is the best option for a patient, we have a team of skilled surgeons who offer minimally-invasive fibroid procedures, including radiofrequency ablation procedures, hysteroscopy, laparoscopic and robotic operations, as well as traditional open surgical treatment. Mayo Clinic Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology is prepared to serve patients with serious or complex medical needs, both in-person and virtually. We are happy to address any questions or concerns you may have and welcome the opportunity to work together in the care of your patients.
