Quality liver cancer screening provides the most favorable treatment options Aug. 09, 2022 Overview Show transcript Overview Sumera I. Ilyas, M.B.B.S., is a gastroenterologist at Mayo Clinic Comprehensive Cancer Center. She works with a large multidisciplinary team in the treatment of and screening for liver cancer. Dr. Ilyas explains that the potentially curative liver cancer treatments are typically available only for earlier stage disease. For this reason, quality screening is incredibly important. The quality of the ultrasound and knowledge of when further testing is needed play key roles in liver cancer screening. For some patients with risk factors such as cirrhosis of the liver, more in-depth screening is required to catch liver cancer early.
