Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. bladder pain
  3. bleeding, blistering, burning, coldness, discoloration of the skin, feeling of pressure, hives, infection, inflammation, itching, lumps, numbness, pain, rash, redness, scarring, soreness, stinging, swelling, tenderness, tingling, ulceration, or warmth at the injection site
  4. bloody or cloudy urine
  5. body aches or pain
  6. burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  7. chest pain or tightness
  8. chills
  9. cough
  10. cracked lips
  11. decreased urine
  12. diarrhea
  13. difficult, burning, or painful urination
  14. difficult or labored breathing
  15. difficulty swallowing
  16. dry mouth
  17. ear congestion
  18. fever
  19. frequent urge to urinate
  20. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  21. headache
  22. increased thirst
  23. irregular heartbeat
  24. joint pain
  25. lack or loss of strength
  26. loss of appetite
  27. loss of voice
  28. lower back or side pain
  29. mood changes
  30. muscle pain or cramps
  31. nausea
  32. nosebleed
  33. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  34. pale skin
  35. redness, swelling, pain of the skin
  36. runny or stuffy nose
  37. scaling of the skin on the hands and feet
  38. seizures
  39. shivering
  40. sneezing
  41. sore throat
  42. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips, tongue, or inside the mouth
  43. sweating
  44. swelling of the hands, ankles, feet, or lower legs
  45. trouble sleeping
  46. unusual bleeding or bruising
  47. unusual tiredness or weakness
  48. vomiting

Less common

  1. Dizziness
  2. itching, skin rash

Rare

  1. Chest discomfort
  2. dilated neck veins
  3. thickening of bronchial secretions
  4. weight gain

Incidence not known

  1. Agitation
  2. bleeding gums
  3. confusion
  4. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  5. depression
  6. hostility
  7. irritability
  8. joint stiffness or swelling
  9. loss of consciousness
  10. lower back, side, or stomach pain
  11. mood or mental changes
  12. muscle twitching
  13. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  14. severe sleepiness
  15. stomach cramps
  16. tremor
  17. unusual drowsiness, dullness, or feeling of sluggishness

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Belching
  2. bleeding after defecation
  3. bone pain
  4. change in or loss of taste
  5. constipation
  6. difficulty in moving
  7. discoloration of the nails
  8. dry eye or skin
  9. feeling of warmth
  10. heartburn
  11. increased tearing of the eye
  12. indigestion
  13. pain and redness of the skin at the place of radiation treatment
  14. redness of the face, neck, arms and occasionally, upper chest
  15. stomach discomfort or upset
  16. thinning or loss of hair
  17. uncomfortable swelling around the anus
