Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

Less common

  1. Burning, crawling, itching, numbness, prickling, "pins and needles", or tingling feelings
  2. chest pain, discomfort, tightness, or heaviness
  3. confusion
  4. continuing stomach pain
  5. diarrhea
  6. difficult or labored breathing
  7. fast, irregular, pounding, or racing heartbeat or pulse
  8. fever
  9. headache
  10. incoherent speech
  11. joint pain, stiffness, or swelling
  12. lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting
  13. muscle pain, cramps, or weakness
  14. nausea
  15. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  16. pain or discomfort in the arms, jaw, leg, back, or neck
  17. pounding in the ears
  18. rash, hives
  19. shakiness in the legs, arms, hands, or feet
  20. sweating
  21. swelling of the eyelids, face, lips, hands, or feet
  22. swollen, painful, or tender lymph glands in the neck, armpit, or groin
  23. unusual bleeding or bruising
  24. vomiting
  25. vomiting of blood or material that looks like coffee grounds
  26. watery or bloody diarrhea

Incidence not known

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  3. blood in the urine
  4. bloody nose
  5. bone fracture
  6. chills
  7. confusion
  8. cough
  9. decreased urine output
  10. drowsiness
  11. dry mouth
  12. heavier menstrual periods
  13. increased thirst
  14. itching
  15. joint or muscle pain
  16. loss of appetite
  17. mood or mental changes
  18. muscle cramps in the hands, arms, feet, legs, or face
  19. muscle spasms (tetany) or twitching
  20. numbness and tingling around the mouth, fingertips, or feet
  21. painful or difficult urination
  22. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  23. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  24. red, irritated eyes
  25. seizures
  26. sore throat
  27. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  28. stomach cramps
  29. swelling of the body, feet, or ankles
  30. swollen glands
  31. trembling
  32. trouble speaking, thinking or walking
  33. unusual tiredness or weakness
  34. unusual weight gain

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

Less common

  1. Abnormal dreams
  2. body aches or pain
  3. bloated or full feeling
  4. burning or itching around the anus
  5. change in taste or bad, unusual, or unpleasant (after) taste
  6. continuing ringing or buzzing or other unexplained noise in the ears
  7. difficult or painful urination
  8. difficulty with moving
  9. ear congestion
  10. ear pain
  11. excess air or gas in the stomach or bowels
  12. falls
  13. feeling of constant movement of self or surroundings
  14. loss in sexual ability, desire, drive, or performance
  15. loss of voice
  16. metallic taste
  17. muscle or bone pain
  18. passing gas
  19. redness of the face, neck, arms, and occasionally, upper chest
  20. runny or stuffy nose
  21. sensation of spinning
  22. sneezing
  23. sunburn
  24. trouble sleeping

Incidence not known

  1. Blurred vision
  2. decreased interest in sexual intercourse
  3. inability to have or keep an erection

Other side effects not listed may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your healthcare professional.
