Dana B. Steien, M.D.

Dana B. Steien, M.D., is a pediatric gastroenterologist, with a special interest in nutrition. She helps lead a multidisciplinary team who provides nutritional support for children and adolescents in the Mayo Clinic Children's Hospital and Mayo Clinic. Her clinical focus includes:

  • Malnutrition, intestinal malabsorption and poor weight gain
  • Expertise in managing patients with short bowel syndrome and intestinal failure
  • Gastrointestinal manifestation of Cystic Fibrosis
  • Performing endoscopy, which includes esophagogastroduodenoscopy and colonoscopy
  • Empowering parents and patients to play an active role in their medical team
  • Identifying and utilizing techniques to facilitate optimal and efficient communication between all members of a patient's medical team

In addition to her clinic activities, Dr. Steien is involved in several educational and research activities. She provides educational talks and mentorship to fellows, residents and medical students. Dr. Steien is passionate about quality improvement initiatives.
