Mayurkumar D. Bhakta, M.D.

Dr. Bhakta was born in San Francisco, California, but lived most of his adolescent life in rural Elko, Nevada. Trained as a mechanical engineer at UCLA, he completed internships at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratories and UCLA's Biomechanical Engineering departments during his undergraduate years. After college, he joined Bourns Engineering in Riverside, CA, where he secured a patent within his first year of work, but then left the company to pursue medical school at the University of Nevada School of Medicine. Dr. Bhakta completed his post-graduate training in Internal Medicine and Cardiology at Mayo Clinic Arizona and his Interventional Cardiology training at University of California, Irvine. He returned to Phoenix, AZ and worked in the community for many years.

Prior to joining Mayo, he was appointed Chief of Cardiology at John C Lincoln hospital at the age of 38, was Operations Medical Director of HonorHealth Heart Group, helping to oversee expansion of the group from 14 to over 40 providers. Additional leadership roles included Associate Chief Medical Officer for Innovation at Care Partners, medical staff Vice Chair of Medicine at John C Lincoln hospital, and medical staff Secretary at Deer Valley hospital. Dr. Bhakta was instrumental in starting the Chronic Total Occlusion, complex coronary intervention, radial access, and structural programs at HonorHealth facilities. In addition to interventional cardiology, he is passionate about Sports Cardiology. He initiated this program at HonorHealth and currently serves on the medical advisory board for the Hall of Fame Health program, which supports all former NFL players.
