John Benson, M.D., is a board-certified neuroradiologist, with a focus on both procedural and diagnostic radiology. As a proceduralist, Dr. Benson specializes in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leaks; he performs myelograms (including digital subtraction myelograms and dynamic CT myelograms), and image-guided blood patches. His also performs vertebroplasties, steroid injections in the spine, and CT-guided biopsies of the skull, neck, and spine.

Diagnostically, Dr. Benson interprets imaging of the brain, head/neck, and spine. He is involved in numerous ongoing research projects, and specializes in the research of carotid artery atherosclerotic plaque imaging, imaging of the temporal bone and inner ear, and CSF hypotension.

Professionally, Dr. Benson spends much of his time in resident education. He is the founder and director of Mayo Clinic's Resident Leadership Academy, and is the Neuroradiology Resident Liaison to the department of radiology's education committee.
