Biographical summary
Matthew Basiaga, D.O., MSCE, is a board-certified pediatric rheumatologist and chair of the division of pediatric rheumatology. His clinical focus includes:
- Expertise in the diagnosis and management of rare rheumatic diseases in children. He has a special interest in childhood Sjögren Disease, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, Behcet's disease, Non-infectious Uveitis, and Chronic Non-Bacterial Osteomyelitis (CNO/CRMO)
- Incorporating bed-side musculoskeletal ultrasound diagnostically, as an extension of his physical examination, and for ultrasound guided joint and tendon injection
Creating a unified diagnostic and treatment plan as a physician-family team by:
- Understanding patient and family goals for diagnosis and treatment
- Providing education on current evidence-based understanding of the disease process and available treatment options
- Setting realistic treatment expectations
His primary research focus is childhood Onset Sjogren Disease. He is a co-leader of the International Childhood Sjögren Disease Workgroup and founder of the Childhood Onset Sjögren disease Outcomes Network (CHOSON). This international collaboration aims to explore longitudinal outcomes, validate childhood classification criteria, and inform future comparative effectiveness trials. His secondary focus involves pharmaco-surveillance and mitigating medication related adverse events utilizing informatics-based approaches.
