Motaz Hamzah Ashkar is a board-certified gastroenterologist with expertise in pancreatic disorders.
Dr. Ashkar received his medical degree from King Abdulaziz University College of Medicine in Saudi Arabia. He obtained training in internal medicine followed by gastroenterology fellowship at Washington University in St. Louis. Also, he completed medical pancreatology subspeciality training at Mayo Clinic in Rochester.
Dr. Ashkar’s clinical expertise is in general gastroenterology with primary focus in pancreatic disorders including acute pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis, autoimmune pancreatitis, pancreatic cysts, pancreatic tumors, pancreatic cancer screening and exocrine pancreatic insufficiency. His major clinical research interests involve diagnosis and management of pancreatitis with primary focus in drug-induced pancreatitis (mainly immunotherapy related pancreatic injury) and exploring diagnostic and management algorithms for exocrine pancreatic insufficiency.
