Clinical trials Below are current clinical trials.33 studies in Neurosurgery (open studies only). Filter this list of studies by location, status and more. Treatment of Brain AVMs (TOBAS) Study Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of this study is to offer the best management possible for patients with brain arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) (ruptured or unruptured) in terms of long-term outcomes, despite the presence of uncertainty. A Study to Explore if it is Possible to Successfully Obtain Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) Imaging and Data While Patients Undergo Brain Surgery Jacksonville, Fla. The goal of this study is to investigate the feasibility of successfully obtaining intra-operative OCT imaging and data during standard brain surgery. A Study of the Possible Use of a New Imaging Method with Glioma Tumors Rochester, Minn., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. The purpose of this study is to see if Magnetic Resonance Elastography (MRE) a recently developed imaging technique can be used to characterize and help stage glioma tumors and evaluate response to therapy. A Study to Assess Sinus Stenting to Manage Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to determine whether transverse/sigmoid sinus junction stenting reduces the risk of recurrent cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak in patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension presenting with CSF leak. A Study to Evaluate Biomarker Target Stimulation Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to understand how electrical stimulation of the brain can modulate and suppress interictal epileptiform activity as a step on the path to developing new therapies for epilepsy. A Study to Evaluate the Feasibility of Intraoperative Microdialysis (tissue sampling) during Neurosurgery for Central Nervous System Malignancies Rochester, Minn. Intraoperative Microdialysis During Neurosurgery for Central Nervous System Malignancies Carotid Revascularization and Medical Management for Asymptomatic Carotid Stenosis Trial Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. Carotid revascularization for primary prevention of stroke (CREST-2) is two independent multicenter, randomized controlled trials of carotid revascularization and intensive medical management versus medical management alone in patients with asymptomatic high-grade carotid stenosis. One trial will randomize patients in a 1:1 ratio to endarterectomy versus no endarterectomy and another will randomize patients in a 1:1 ratio to carotid stenting with embolic protection versus no stenting. Medical management will be uniform for all randomized treatment groups and will be centrally directed. A Registry of Biospecimens for Patients with Central Nervous Systems Inflammatory Disease Rochester, Minn. The purpose of the study is to learn more about inflammatory diseases of the central nervous system (CNS) by collecting patient information, blood sample (which contain a person’s genes, DNA) and other available tissue samples. A Study to Test Concussion Return to Baseline after Elective Craniotomy Procedure Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of this study is to determine return to baseline (RTB) period after an elective craniotomy procedure using the ImPACT testing assessment. Pre-operative vs. Post-operative Radiosurgery for Metastatic Brain Tumors Rochester, Minn., Jacksonville, Fla., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is an increase in the time of a first occurrence of either: local recurrence, leptomeningeal disease, or symptomatic radiation brain necrosis in patients with brain metastases who receive SRS prior to surgery as compared to patients who receive surgery prior to SRS. The patient comes first. So the mission and research here is to advance how we can best help the patient, how to make sure the patient comes first in care. So in many ways, it's a cycle. It can start with as simple as an idea worked on in a laboratory, brought to the patient bedside, and if everything goes right — and let's say it's helpful or beneficial — then brought on as a standard approach. And I think that is one of the unique characteristics of Mayo's approach to research — that patient-centeredness — that really helps to put it in its own spotlight.
