A Multimodal Monitoring (MMM) Computer to Detect Physiologic Trends in Data in Neurointensive Care Unit Patients Rochester, Minn., Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of this study is to identify important physiologic trends in bedside ICU data such as cerebral perfusion pressure (CPP), intracranial pressure (ICP) using a bedside “Multimodal monitoring” (MMM) computer which utilizes ICM+ Cambridge software. A Study to Test Concussion Return to Baseline after Elective Craniotomy Procedure Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of this study is to determine return to baseline (RTB) period after an elective craniotomy procedure using the ImPACT testing assessment. Pre-operative vs. Post-operative Radiosurgery for Metastatic Brain Tumors Rochester, Minn., Jacksonville, Fla., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. The purpose of this study is to determine whether there is an increase in the time of a first occurrence of either: local recurrence, leptomeningeal disease, or symptomatic radiation brain necrosis in patients with brain metastases who receive SRS prior to surgery as compared to patients who receive surgery prior to SRS. Image-based Mapping of Brain Tumors Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz., Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to combine MRI images with histologic and genetic analysis of cancer (from blood and tissue samples) to improve the overall accuracy of diagnosis and effectiveness of cancer treatment. Brain Tumor Repository Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. The main objective of the Brain Tumor Repository is to allow access to coded patient data by researchers both inside and outside of the Mayo Clinic system so that important research questions can be answered. Biospecimens will be collected and curated including excess fresh tissue collected during routine surgery, peripheral blood and urine at routine clinical followup times. Study to Evaluate the Utility, Safety, Effectiveness, and Cost of Physical Therapy on Elective Spine Surgery Patients Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the utility, safety, effectiveness, and cost of physical therapy on elective spine surgery patients. A Registry to Follow Long-Term Outcomes for Mother and Child Pairs After Fetal Surgery for Spina Bifida Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to form a registry of data on the long term physical and mental health outcomes of the mother and child following fetal surgical repair for spina bifida. A Registry Called Every Child for Collecting Data and Biology Specimens on Younger Patients with Cancer Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this registry called Every Child, is to collect data and biospecimens from multiple body sources for younger patients with cancer over time. Gathering health information over time from younger patients with cancer may help doctors find better methods of treatment and on-going care. Metastatic Tumor Research and Outcomes Network Rochester, Minn. The registry aims to collect patient information such as patient demographics, co-morbidities, clinical, diagnostic, and therapeutic data, as well as information on adverse events and HRQOL outcomes specific for patients with metastatic spine tumor(s). Inherited Muscle Diseases Repository Rochester, Minn. To establish a repository of DNA samples collected prospectively from patients with inherited myopathies of unknown molecular and/or biochemical defect. To access residual muscle specimens from diagnostic muscle biopsies obtained as part of the routine medical care. The biospecimens will be used to better understanding the underlying molecular defects and mechanisms of muscle diseases. The patient comes first. So the mission and research here is to advance how we can best help the patient, how to make sure the patient comes first in care. So in many ways, it's a cycle. It can start with as simple as an idea worked on in a laboratory, brought to the patient bedside, and if everything goes right — and let's say it's helpful or beneficial — then brought on as a standard approach. And I think that is one of the unique characteristics of Mayo's approach to research — that patient-centeredness — that really helps to put it in its own spotlight.
