Clinical trials Below are current clinical trials.26 studies in Otolaryngology (ENT)/Head and Neck Surgery (open studies only). Filter this list of studies by location, status and more. A Study to Assess Sinus Stenting to Manage Cerebrospinal Fluid Leak Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to determine whether transverse/sigmoid sinus junction stenting reduces the risk of recurrent cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) leak in patients with idiopathic intracranial hypertension presenting with CSF leak. A Study to Identify Biomarkers in the Blood, Saliva or Tissue for Oropharyngeal Squamous Cell Cancer Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to identify a biomarker (or biomarkers) that is present when disease is present (i.e., at diagnosis or recurrence) and not present when disease is absent (i.e., after treatment, in HPV negative patients or in normal controls). Quality of Life in Patients with Acoustic Neuromas Rochester, Minn. Acoustic neuromas (also known as vestibular schwannomas) are benign slow growing tumors that arise from the vestibular portion of the eighth cranial nerve. Current treatment options include microsurgery, stereotactic radiosurgery and observation, using a “wait-and-scan” approach. The primary objective of this study is to compare long-term quality of life outcomes between treatments for sporadic acoustic neuromas. A Study to Evaluate Quality of Life Outcomes for Cholesteatoma Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to determine the quality of life scores for patients that have undergone subtotal petrosectomy and ear canal closure for cholesteatoma and/or chronic otitis media utilizing two previously validated quality-of-life scales. Vocal Disorders Co-existing in Patients with Spasmotic Dsyphonia (SD) Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of this study is to investigate if SD patients have vocal disorders (nodules, polyps, muscle tension dysphonia etc) more than in normal population. BiCaZO: A Study Combining Two Immunotherapies (Cabozantinib and Nivolumab) to Treat Patients With Advanced Melanoma or Squamous Cell Head and Neck Cancer, an immunoMATCH Pilot Study Jacksonville, Fla., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of molecular characterization based on tumor mutational burden (TMB) for participant stratification, as assessed by the proportion of participants with less than or equal to a 21-day turnaround time for biopsy results in Stage I of the study. Also, to evaluate the feasibility of molecular characterization based on TMB and gene expression profiling (GEP) (for TIS - tumor inflammation signature) for stratification in the overall study (Stage I and Stage II). Additinoally, to evaluate the effectiveness by overall response rate (ORR – defined as confirmed and unconfirmed partial responses plus complete responses) of cabozantinib plus nivolumab in each disease cohort, both across and within tumor biomarker subgroups. A Study of the Biological System of Allergic Fungal Sinusitis Mucin Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of this study is to describe the proteome of mucus in patients without chronic rhinosinusitis (nCRS) with an emphasis on cytokines and bone morphogenic proteins present (BMPs), to describe the proteome of mucus in patients with chronic rhinosinusitis without polyps (CRSsNP) with an emphasis on cytokines and BMPs present, to describe the proteome of mucus in patients with allergic fungal sinusitis (AFRS) with an emphasis on cytokines and BMPs present, and to identify BMPs differentially elevated in patients with AFRS compared to patients with nCRS or CRS. A Study to Develop a Biorepository of Blood Samples from Cancer Patients Participating in the Gemini (IRB 19-006717) Protocol Jacksonville, Fla., Scottsdale/Phoenix, Ariz. The purpose of this study is to develop a biorepository of blood samples from cancer patients participating in the Gemini (IRB 19-006717) protocol. These samples will be used for future biomarker discovery and other translational studies. In-home Versus In-Clinic Subcutaneous Nivolumab Administration through Connected and Remote Cancer CARE Beyond Walls Jacksonville, Fla. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the impact of the location of SQ Nivo administration, at the infusion center or in the home, on patient preference and acceptability, safety, patient reported outcomes (PROs), and clinical outcomes. A Study to Evaluate Impedance Monitoring in Cochlear Implants Rochester, Minn. The purpose of this study is to determine changes in cochlear implant electrode impedances as a function over a period of time. The patient comes first. So the mission and research here is to advance how we can best help the patient, how to make sure the patient comes first in care. So in many ways, it's a cycle. It can start with as simple as an idea worked on in a laboratory, brought to the patient bedside, and if everything goes right — and let's say it's helpful or beneficial — then brought on as a standard approach. And I think that is one of the unique characteristics of Mayo's approach to research — that patient-centeredness — that really helps to put it in its own spotlight.
