Biographical summary
Dr. Popovic is a senior associate consultant in the Department of Cardiovascular Medicine, Mayo Clinic. Her clinical responsibilities include primary and secondary prevention of cardiovascular disease, stress testing, cardiac rehabilitation, and sports cardiology. Dr. Popovic has been practicing in the fields of stress testing, preventive cardiology, and sports and exercise cardiology since 2001.
After graduating from the School of Medicine, University of Belgrade at Serbia in 2001, with high honors, Dr. Dejana Popovic joined the faculty. In parallel, she completed her internal medicine residency and cardiology fellowship, and became clinical cardiologist consultant. She was national pulmonary hypertension and heart failure team member. She obtained MSc degree and PhD in the field of cardiology at the School of Medicine, University of Belgrade, Serbia, and was promoted to a full professor in 2024. She has joined Mayo Clinic 2021, initially under the auspices of Fulbright Foundation. Dr. Popovic has introduced many cardiopulmonary exercise testing laboratories in her working environment and directs the advanced international cardiopulmonary exercise testing training programs. She is a regular invited faculty lecturer at national and international scientific meetings. She is a dedicated educator, regularly participating in the teaching and mentoring of students, as well as lecturing at national and international continuing medical education events. Dr. Popovic participated in numerous clinical trials, has served as the site principal investigator for many, as well as Horizon 2020 project. Dejana is a fellow of the European Society of Cardiology (FESC), member of the ESC Working Group on Myocardial and Pericardial Diseases and president of Serbian Society for Prevention of Noncommunicable Diseases.
