Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Dizziness
  2. lightheadedness

Incidence not known

  1. Agitation
  2. back, leg, or stomach pains
  3. black, tarry stools
  4. bleeding gums
  5. blistering, peeling, or loosening of the skin
  6. blood in the urine or stools
  7. blood in vomit
  8. bluish lips or skin
  9. chest tightness
  10. chills
  11. choking
  12. confusion
  13. cough
  14. dark urine
  15. darkening of the skin
  16. decrease in the frequency of urination
  17. decrease in urine volume
  18. diarrhea
  19. difficult or trouble breathing
  20. difficulty in passing urine (dribbling)
  21. difficulty with swallowing
  22. fainting
  23. fast heartbeat
  24. fever
  25. fever with or without chills
  26. general body swelling
  27. general feeling of tiredness or weakness
  28. headache
  29. hoarseness
  30. increased sensitivity to pain
  31. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  32. joint or muscle pain
  33. light-colored stools
  34. loss of appetite
  35. lower back or side pain
  36. mental depression
  37. nausea
  38. nosebleeds
  39. not breathing
  40. overactive reflexes
  41. painful or difficult urination
  42. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  43. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  44. poor coordination
  45. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  46. red irritated eyes
  47. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  48. restlessness
  49. severe or continuing stomach pain
  50. shivering
  51. skin rash, hives, or itching
  52. sore throat
  53. sore tongue
  54. sores, ulcers, or white spots on the lips or in the mouth
  55. sweating
  56. talking or acting with excitement you cannot control
  57. trembling or shaking
  58. twitching
  59. unable to speak
  60. unusual bleeding or bruising
  61. unusual tiredness or weakness
  62. upper right abdominal or stomach pain
  63. vomiting
  64. worsening of pain
  65. yellow eyes and skin

Get emergency help immediately if any of the following symptoms of overdose occur:

Symptoms of overdose

  1. Bloody or cloudy urine
  2. change in consciousness
  3. chest pain or discomfort
  4. cold and clammy skin
  5. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  6. decreased awareness or responsiveness
  7. difficult or trouble breathing
  8. extreme drowsiness
  9. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  10. increased sweating
  11. irregular, fast or slow, or shallow breathing
  12. irregular heartbeat
  13. lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting
  14. loss of consciousness
  15. no blood pressure or pulse
  16. no muscle tone or movement
  17. not breathing
  18. pale or blue lips, fingernails, or skin
  19. severe sleepiness
  20. slow or irregular heartbeat
  21. stopping of heart
  22. sudden decrease in the amount of urine
  23. swelling in the legs and ankles
  24. unpleasant breath odor

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Drowsiness
  2. relaxed and calm feeling
  3. sleepiness

Incidence not known

  1. Belching
  2. changes in mood
  3. difficulty having a bowel movement
  4. fear or nervousness
  5. feeling of indigestion
  6. hearing loss
  7. impaired hearing
  8. pain in the chest below the breastbone
  9. unusual drowsiness, dullness, tiredness, weakness, or feeling of sluggishness
