Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

  1. Anxiety
  2. blindness
  3. bloating
  4. bloody or black, tarry stools
  5. blue lips and fingernails
  6. blurred vision
  7. bone pain
  8. bowel or bladder dysfunction
  9. bulging soft spot on the head of an infant
  10. change in ability to see colors, especially blue or yellow
  11. changes in skin color, pain, tenderness, or swelling of the foot or leg
  12. chest pain, discomfort, or tightness
  13. chills
  14. cold sweats
  15. coma
  16. confusion
  17. constipation
  18. cool, pale skin
  19. cough
  20. coughing that sometimes produces a pink frothy sputum
  21. darkened urine
  22. decrease in height
  23. decrease in the amount of urine
  24. decreased urine
  25. decreased vision
  26. depression
  27. difficult, fast, noisy breathing
  28. difficulty swallowing
  29. dilated neck veins
  30. discouragement
  31. dry mouth
  32. extreme tiredness or weakness
  33. eye pain
  34. eyeballs bulge out of the eye sockets
  35. fast, pounding, or irregular heartbeat or pulse
  36. feeling sad or empty
  37. fever
  38. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  39. headache
  40. hives, skin rash
  41. impaired wound healing
  42. increased hunger
  43. increased sweating
  44. increased thirst
  45. indigestion
  46. irregular breathing
  47. irritability
  48. lack of appetite
  49. large, hive-like swelling on face, eyelids, lips, tongue, throat, hands, legs, feet, or genitals
  50. lightheadedness, dizziness, or fainting
  51. loss of appetite
  52. loss of interest or pleasure
  53. lower back or side pain
  54. mood changes
  55. muscle cramp, pain, tenderness, wasting, or weakness
  56. nausea
  57. nervousness
  58. numbness or tingling in the hands, feet, or lips
  59. pain in the back, ribs, arms, or legs
  60. pain in the chest, groin, or legs, especially the calves
  61. painful, swollen joints
  62. pains in the stomach, side, or abdomen, possibly radiating to the back
  63. pale skin
  64. pounding in the ears
  65. puffiness or swelling of the eyelids or around the eyes, face, lips, or tongue
  66. redness, soreness, or itching skin
  67. right upper abdominal pain and fullness
  68. seizures
  69. severe, sudden headache
  70. shakiness
  71. slow heartbeat
  72. slurred speech
  73. sores, welts, or blisters
  74. stomach distention
  75. stomach pain or burning
  76. sudden loss of coordination
  77. sudden, severe weakness or numbness in the arm or leg
  78. swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs
  79. tearing
  80. trouble breathing
  81. trouble concentrating
  82. trouble sleeping
  83. unusual tiredness or weakness
  84. vision changes
  85. vomiting
  86. weight gain
  87. yellow eyes or skin

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

  1. Abnormal fat deposits
  2. darkening or lightening of normal skin color
  3. dry, scaly skin
  4. increased appetite
  5. increased sweating
  6. lightening of treated areas of dark skin
  7. moon face
  8. thinning hair
  9. weight gain
