Biographical summary
Dr. El-Sayed Ahmed is an associate professor of surgery at Mayo Clinic College of Medicine. He joined the department of cardiothoracic surgery at Mayo Clinic in Florida 5 years ago. He had done an extensive training in the field of cardiothoracic surgery. He had done 2 years of adult cardiac and aortic surgery fellowship at the Texas Heart institute, Houston, Texas. During these 2 years he gained the surgical experience in managing complex cardiac and aortic cases. That was followed by 2 years of heart/lung transplant and mechanical circulatory support fellowship at the Texas Heart Institute. During these 2 years Dr. El-Sayed Ahmed was trained on complex heart and lung transplant procedures and implantation of mechanical circulatory support devices such as LVAD, Impella, ECMO, IABP and SynCardia total artificial heart. During these 4 years of training at the Texas Heart Institute he was mentored by world renowned surgeons Denton Cooley, Bud Frazier, Joseph Coselli and David Ott. Afterwards, he pursued his training in pediatric and congenital cardiac surgery, mentored by world renowned congenital cardiac surgeon Richard Jonas, at the Children's National Medical Center, Washington DC.

- Coronary artery bypass grafting
- Valve surgery
- Aortic aneurysm repair
- Heart and lung transplant
- LVAD implantation, ECMO and Impella deployment
- DCD heart recovery using the OCS Transmedics and Normothermic Regional perfusion technique
Dr. El-Sayed Ahmed has published 34 articles in peer-review journals and co-authored a chapter in a text book. He has been selected as a judge for the American Medical Association (AMA) research symposium for the last 7 consecutive years. Also, he has been selected as a reviewer for the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation (ISHLT) 2022 meeting in Boston. Dr. El-Sayed Ahmed has been consistently presenting at major international meetings such as ISHLT, AATS and STS. Dr. El-Sayed Ahmed is participating as a co-investigator in major clinical trials such as EVLP, and DCD heart recovery using NRP. Dr. El-Sayed Ahmed enjoys travelling and exploring new places, playing tennis & golf, hiking and painting.
