The Mayo Clinic High School Volunteers Program is a year-round volunteer program in Rochester, Minnesota, with service opportunities in both outpatient and inpatient settings. For training and scheduling purposes, the program is divided into three sessions a year. The program is open to high school students who are currently age 14 or older.

Session 1: February through May 2025

  • New volunteer applications for Session 1 must be submitted between November 25 - December 2, 2024.
  • Program capacity is limited, and applicants are required to attend High School Volunteer Orientation held in early December and Service Area Training upon the completion of all onboarding requirements.

Session 2: June through August 2025

  • New volunteer applications for Session 2 must be submitted between April 28 - May 5, 2025.
  • Program capacity is limited, and applicants are required to attend High School Volunteer Orientation held in early May and Service Area Training upon the completion of all onboarding requirements.

Session 3: September 2025 through January 2026

  • New volunteer applications for Session 3 must be submitted between July 28 - August 4, 2025.
  • Program capacity is limited, and applicants are required to attend High School Volunteer Orientation held in early August and Service Area Training upon the completion of all onboarding requirements.

Priority will be given to students who submit their application and attend the Volunteer Orientation. Students who apply late or who do not attend the Volunteer Orientation may be accepted into the program pending program capacity.

Requirements

  • A regularly scheduled weekday shift for a minimum of one session per year is required. There are three sessions available per year.
  • Shifts are a minimum of 2 hours.
  • Minnesota law requires facilities licensed by the Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) to complete applicant background studies on all individuals who have direct patient contact. This two-step process includes verification of identity, submission of a photograph and fingerprints. In addition, Mayo Clinic also runs a second background check through Certiphi Screening, Inc.

Note: There are certain times throughout the year when High School Volunteers Program applications are considered for acceptance. Ensure that you have reviewed the program sessions and application dates listed above prior to submitting your application. Incomplete applications will not be accepted.
