Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Feeling unusually cold
  2. shivering
  3. swollen, painful, or tender lymph glands in the neck, armpit, or groin

Less common

  1. Agitation
  2. anxiety
  3. back pain
  4. blindness
  5. blistering, peeling, or loosening of skin
  6. blue or pale skin
  7. blurred vision
  8. changes in vision
  9. chest discomfort
  10. chest pain, possibly moving to the left arm, neck, or shoulder
  11. confusion
  12. convulsions (seizures)
  13. cough
  14. diarrhea
  15. difficult or labored breathing
  16. dizziness
  17. drowsiness
  18. fast heartbeat
  19. fever and chills
  20. hallucinations
  21. headache
  22. irritability
  23. itching
  24. joint or muscle pain
  25. loss of consciousness
  26. mood or mental changes
  27. red skin lesions, often with a purple center
  28. red, irritated eyes
  29. shortness of breath
  30. skin rash that is encrusted, scaly, and oozing
  31. sore throat
  32. sores, ulcers, or white spots in the mouth or on the lips
  33. stiff neck
  34. tightness in the chest
  35. trouble breathing
  36. unusual tiredness or weakness
  37. vomiting
  38. wheezing

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Decreased ability to exercise
  2. difficulty having a bowel movement (stool)
  3. difficulty with moving
  4. flushing or redness of the skin
  5. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  6. itching, pain, redness, or swelling at the vaccine site
  7. muscle aching or cramping
  8. muscle stiffness
  9. nausea
  10. rash
  11. swollen joints
  12. unusually warm skin
