Side Effects

Along with its needed effects, a medicine may cause some unwanted effects. Although not all of these side effects may occur, if they do occur they may need medical attention.

Check with your doctor or nurse immediately if any of the following side effects occur:

More common

  1. Black, tarry stools
  2. bleeding gums
  3. blood in the urine or stools
  4. body aches or pain
  5. chills
  6. cough
  7. ear congestion
  8. fever
  9. headache
  10. increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight
  11. itching, skin rash
  12. loss of voice
  13. lower back or side pain
  14. muscle or bone pain
  15. pain or tenderness around the eyes and cheekbones
  16. painful or difficult urination
  17. pale skin
  18. pinpoint red spots on the skin
  19. redness or other discoloration of the skin
  20. severe sunburn
  21. sore throat
  22. stuffy or runny nose
  23. swelling of the hands, ankles, feet, or lower legs
  24. swelling or puffiness of the face
  25. tightness in the chest
  26. trouble breathing
  27. ulcers, sores, or white spots in the mouth
  28. unusual bleeding or bruising
  29. unusual tiredness or weakness

Less common

  1. Anxiety
  2. blistering, crusting, irritation, itching, or reddening of the skin
  3. blue or pale skin
  4. chest pain, possibly moving to the left arm, neck, or shoulder
  5. confusion
  6. cracked, dry, scaly skin
  7. darkening of the skin
  8. dizziness
  9. dry cough
  10. fainting
  11. fast heartbeat
  12. general feeling of discomfort or illness
  13. lightheadedness
  14. rapid, shallow breathing
  15. sneezing
  16. thickening of bronchial secretions

Some side effects may occur that usually do not need medical attention. These side effects may go away during treatment as your body adjusts to the medicine. Also, your health care professional may be able to tell you about ways to prevent or reduce some of these side effects. Check with your health care professional if any of the following side effects continue or are bothersome or if you have any questions about them:

More common

  1. Back pain
  2. constipation
  3. decreased appetite
  4. diarrhea
  5. difficulty in moving
  6. joint pain
  7. lack or loss of strength
  8. muscle aches, cramps, or stiffness
  9. nausea
  10. stomach pain
  11. swollen joints
  12. unusual drowsiness, dullness, or feeling of sluggishness
  13. vomiting
