William O. Tatum, D.O., is a neurologist at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville, Florida whose interests include: clinical epilepsy; drug-resistant epilepsy; epilepsy surgery; neuromodulation; women and epilepsy; semiology and epilepsy; new anti-seizure drugs; clinical neurophysiology; EEG, and clinical research trials (drugs and devices). He treats conditions that consist of drug-resistant epilepsy, generalized epilepsy, focal epilepsy, status epilepticus, autoimmune epilepsy and pediatric/adolescent epilepsy (12 years and above). Dr. Tatum performs procedures such as video-EEG monitoring (scalp and intracranial), ambulatory EEG monitoring, intraoperative neurophysiologic monitoring, electrocorticography, functional brain mapping using direct electrocortical stimulation, ICU EEG monitoring, evoked potentials and neuromodulation programming.

He completed his medical education at the College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in Des Moines, Iowa, his neurology residency at Loyola University Medical Center in Chicago, Illinois, and a two-year epilepsy fellowship at Graduate Hospital affiliated with the University of Pennsylvania. He joined Mayo Clinic in 2009 as a clinician-educator.

Dr. Tatum is a Fellow in the American Academy of Neurology, American Neurological Association and the American Clinical Neurophysiology Society. He is board-certified in neurology, clinical neurophysiology, and epilepsy and has served as the director for the Comprehensive Epilepsy Center and Epilepsy Monitoring Unit at Mayo Clinic Hospital in Jacksonville. He has authored more than 170 peer-reviewed manuscripts, 45 book chapters and edited or co-edited eight books in the field of epilepsy and clinical neurophysiology.
