Linda M. Szymanski, M.D., Ph.D.

Linda M. Szymanski, M.D., Ph.D., is a Maternal-Fetal Medicine specialist with vast experience in providing obstetric care from preconception consultations to delivery and postpartum. Before joining the Mayo Clinic, she was the Director of Labor and Delivery and Inpatient Obstetrics at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland.

Her primary clinical interests are:

  • Management and delivery of multiple gestations
  • Obstetric emergencies
  • High-risk pregnancies, with a focus on maternal disease/complications
  • Providing care for women with a history of preterm deliveries

Medicine is a second career for Dr. Szymanski, who also holds a Ph.D. in Exercise Science. She has found a way to combine her two careers by implementing a research program in exercise and pregnancy. She is particularly interested in developing evidence-based guidelines to assist providers in counseling pregnant women about exercise.

While at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Szymanski was inducted into the prestigious Miller-Coulson Academy of Clinical Excellence, which recognizes physicians who provide compassionate and exceptional care to patients. She is a highly recognized educator of residents and fellows, as evidenced by the multiple teaching awards she has received as well as the publication of a handbook she developed for OB/GYN residents emphasizing the practical application of evidence-based medicine.
