Erica A. Loomis, M.D., is a surgeon with a board certification in trauma/critical care with special interests in acute care surgery, hospital census management and patient flow. She is a consultant in the division of trauma, critical care and general surgery in Rochester, Minnesota. She is an assistant professor of surgery at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science with a patient-centered approach.

Her clinical focus includes:

  • Emergency general surgery; traumatic injury, and intensive care
  • Hospital census management; admission and transfer quality, patient flow
  • Improving outcomes regarding surgical readmission rates

Dr. Loomis earned her medical degree from the University of Nevada School of Medicine. She completed her general surgery residency at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science and her surgical critical care fellowship at Oregon Health and Science University.

In addition to her clinical activities, Dr. Loomis is an active leader in researching surgery and trauma outcomes. She earned the Jon A. van Heerden Award from the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science.
