Alvaro Cornejo Cobo, M.D.

Dr. Alvaro Cornejo is an accomplished internal medicine physician with extensive experience in primary care, hospital medicine, and physician leadership roles. Dr. Cornejo brings a comprehensive approach to patient care shaped by diverse experiences in both the United States and Ecuador.

He completed his Internal Medicine Residency at Saint Peter's University Hospital in New Jersey, where he earned the Sister Mary dePassy Award for outstanding performance. Dr. Cornejo previously served as Chief of Medicine at Desoto Memorial Hospital, overseeing key committees on infection control, credentialing, and utilization. Most recently, he served as a staff consultant at Intercoastal Medical Group in Sarasota, Florida.

Dr. Cornejo's commitment to advancing medical knowledge is evident in his research on venous thrombosis and hepatorenal syndrome, as well as his active participation in multiple national medical conferences. Fluent in both English and Spanish, he has also demonstrated dedication to underserved communities through medical brigades and rural healthcare leadership in Ecuador. He joins the Mayo Clinic Division of Community Internal Medicine as an asset to the growing diversified population within our area.

Outside of the practice, Dr. Cornejo enjoys staying active through sports, particularly golf and soccer. He values spending quality time with his family, exploring new cuisines through cooking and dining out, and has a passion for traveling to new destinations.
