Dr. Jinjun Cheng obtained his medical degree from China, completed a residency in anatomic and clinical pathology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center, and then joined the National Cancer Institute (Bethesda, MD) as a hematopathology fellow from 2018 to 2020. Before Dr. Cheng joined Mayo Clinic (Phoenix, AZ), as a hematopathologist in 2024, he was a hematopathologist and medical director of the hematopathology/flow cytometry section at Children's National Hospital, Washington, DC.

Dr. Cheng has published more than 40 peer-reviewed papers on the journals of the American Journal of Surgical Pathology, Haematologica, Nature Genetics, and New England Journal of Medicine. He is an active member of the Society for Hematopathology and the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology.

Dr. Cheng has received several awards, including the Stowell Orbison award from the United States and Canadian Academy of Pathology. He is also a young investigator of Children's Oncology Group (2021-2024).
