Dr. Cardenas is the current Medical Director of the International Medicine Practice subsection of the General Internal Medicine Department at the Mayo Clinic Florida. He is the Internal Medicine division champion of Digital Transformation and a former Vice Chair of the Association of Latinos at Mayo Clinic and a committee member of the Mayo Clinic International Activities Subcommittee at the enterprise level.

Dr. Cardenas is originally from Toluca, Mexico, graduated from med school at the Universidad Anahuac México Norte. After graduation, he performed 2 years of clinical research at the Texas Heart Institute and St Luke’s Episcopal Hospital/Texas Medical Center in Houston and did his specialty in Internal Medicine at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center. He is a former adjunct assistant professor at the University of Texas Health Sciences Center San Antonio. During the COVID-19 pandemics he was very active sharing and promoting best medical practices as a medical correspondent for Univision 41.

Member of state and national committees including the ACP Florida Chapter Communications Committee and the Social Media Committee of the American Medical Association.

He is a current member of the ACP’s Abstract Review Committee for the national and state (Florida) competitions. He is a former BMJ reviewer.

Dr. Cardenas strongly advocates and provides information and advice to other IMG’s through his Instagram account @dr.juancarlosmd with more than 10K followers.

Dr. Cardenas has successfully given oral presentations nationally and internationally, publishing articles, book chapters and abstracts in high renowned journals. Along with actively participating as an interviewee in different TV/Radio media outlets such as Univision, Telemundo, CNN en español, Grupo Imagen (Mexico), Uniradio (Mexico), La Nacion (Argentina) Mayo Clinic News Network and writing health related articles for Vogue Mexico, Reader's Digest Selecciones de Mexico, el Heraldo de Mexico, el Clarín de Argentina, Yahoo France, Top Santé France, and Seattle Times.
