Leslie C. Baxter, Ph.D.

Leslie C. Baxter is a clinical neuropsychologist who assesses cognitive functioning in patients with neurological syndromes. She has a specialty in brain mapping for some patients requiring neurosurgery. Her research interests include examining brain-behavior relationships in several disorders, including individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders, aging and Alzheimer's disease, and brain tumors.

  • Clinical Brain Mapping — Dr. Baxter has expertise in functional MRI, DTI white matter tractography and awake cortical mapping. She works with the neurosurgical team to provide presurgical and intraoperative maps of certain cognitive functions to maximize best surgical outcome. She develops new neuroimaging methods to map brain functioning.
  • Brain-behavior Research — Dr. Baxter's has a broad interest in using cognitive, behavioral and neuroimaging methods to address neurological syndromes. In collaboration with other Arizona researchers, she uses these techniques to study aging in Autism Spectrum Disorders and is developing a translational program to increase independence as individuals with ASD age. She also uses neuroimaging to investigate brain changes associated with brain tumors, aging and Alzheimer's Disease, and language disorders.
  • Education Training — Dr. Baxter serves as a mentor for undergraduate and graduate students in collaboration with her research colleagues at Arizona State University. She participates in the Mayo Clinic Alix School of Medicine in Arizona.
