Get to know me and my work at the Mayo Clinic

I'm Tim Nelson. I'm a physician/scientist at Mayo Clinic. I work in the Transplant Center, and I specialize in cardiac regeneration for congenital heart disease.

I think it's the patient experience that really defines us at Mayo Clinic. It's everything that affects the patient matters to us. We have an expectation in our culture to find new innovative ways of doing things. And that's a unique thing about Mayo, and that's what really drives state of the art cutting edge research.

Children with congenital heart disease is what motivates our whole research program. We currently have three clinical trials where we are actually delivering stem cells into the hearts of infants and children with congenital heart disease, with the goal of rebuilding their heart tissue. This is exciting, because we think that this actually may be able to transform the way we take care of kids with these congenital heart problems.
