Mayo Clinic surgeons developed a new protocol that makes Whipple surgery an option for more people and improves the survival among this group. Because more people are living longer after Whipple procedures than in the past, Mayo Clinic researchers are examining how to improve quality of life after surgery. In addition, in the Mayo Clinic Gastrointestinal Cancer Program, new diagnostic tools, treatments and approaches to prevention for pancreatic cancer are being studied. Mayo Clinic doctors in this program are dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge of cancers affecting the intestinal tract and to improving the quality of life of people affected by these diseases.
