Mayo Clinic's approach

Collaboration

At Mayo Clinic, a team of highly trained experts in radiology and gastroenterology care for people considering virtual colonoscopy for colon cancer screening.

Virtual colonoscopy appointments at selected Mayo Clinic sites are scheduled in the mornings. This way, it may be possible to investigate any polyps or growths with traditional colonoscopy the same day. By having the two exams in the same day, you won't need to undergo bowel preparation twice.

If you're diagnosed with colon cancer, additional specialists, such as oncologists, surgeons and radiation oncologists may be involved in your care team. Working together, your team devises a personalized treatment plan for your cancer.

Expertise

Mayo Clinic radiologists and gastroenterologists are widely respected for their participation in developing and implementing virtual colonoscopy as a tool for colon cancer screening. Mayo Clinic doctors were among the first to report in the scientific literature on the clinical effectiveness of virtual colonoscopy.
